Link Wray started out in country music, but moved on to rock and rockabilly. He was one of the first to popularize the use of the power chord. His first hit was banded in New York and Boston because they thought it would incite “teen gang violence”. When he recorded it, Wray poked a pencil through the cone of his amplifier to make the recording sound more like the live version, which the record company hated. It's the only instrumental single ever banned from radio in the United States.
