We live in a very special place. Louisiana, particularly along its southern Gulf Coast regions, is home to a culture that is truly unique. Louisiana is known for its food the world over, but is also known for its music. Traditional Cajun music shares its roots with Country music, and -perhaps- that is for one reason: both are American art forms, born right here in the rural US. Both sprang up from the folk music of our land and, early on, you could hear these similarities easily. In fact, you sometimes might not know the difference between them, if not for one being sung in English, and the other in Cajun French.
Today we have a couple of songs to share that showcase these similarities.
First, we have CFMA Hall of Fame Inductee Adam Hebert. Here we hear him perform traditional Country Song 'Tomorrow I'll Be Gone', in English. (Most of the time I hear him only sing in Cajun French.)
And on the flip side, we have "The King of Country Music" Roy Acuff performing what is usually heard in Cajun French and is very often performed by Cajun French bands, even today. Here's Acuff's version of 'Jole Blon', also in English.
While we have you, how about a pop over to the store?
