An American blues singer and musician, Junior Parker is best remembered for his voice, which has been described as "honeyed" and "velvet-smooth". He worked with Rice Miller, a.k.a. Sonny Boy Williamson, before moving on to work for Howlin' Wolf in 1949. Around 1950, he began performing with a coalition of performers in Memphis known the Beale Streeters, which included Bobby "Blue" Bland and B.B. King. In 1951, Parker formed his own band, called the Blue Flames. In 1952, Parker was discovered by talent scout Ike Turner for Modern Records, with whom he made his first recording. Today' song is one he wrote, but was also recorded by many, many other musicians. Originally performed in the style of a Memphis blues or rhythm and blues tune, it was inspired by earlier songs and later became a rockabilly standard. Elvis had a big hit off this one (much like Carl Perkins' Blue Suede Shoes), and was the first to cover it.
