The Blue Yodeler

An American singer-songwriter and musician who rose to popularity in the late 1920s, Jimmie Rodgers is widely regarded as "the Father of Country Music". He is best known for his distinctive rhythmic yodeling, unusual for a music star of his era. Rodgers rose to prominence based upon his recordings, among country music's earliest, rather than concert performances.  If you know his songs, you are probably most familiar with “Blue Yodel no. 8”, which is also known as “Mule Skinner Blues”, as performed by Bill Monroe, or maybe Dolly Parton’s version.  There are several versions out there.  But today, I’d like to share another song from Rodgers, one of my favorites.

If you haven’t done so, I’d encourage you to watch the Ken Burns Documentary “Country Music” on PBS
