The Un-Memorable Harold Jenkins

Harold Jenkins got started in the Rockabilly scene of the 1950s, and had a few recordings at Sun Records. The recordings he made for Sun were not released at that time.  He figured his name wasn’t memorable enough, so as he was looking at a road map one day he spotted Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas,. He then chose the name Conway Twitty as a stage name.  Later, he moved to MGM records where he had a bit more success.  When "It's Only Make Believe" was first released, because of vocal similarities, many listeners assumed that the song was actually recorded by Elvis Presley, using "Conway Twitty" as a pseudonym.  Eventually he moved on to country, which is where you know him from.  Here's a famous duet, with another famous country singer!
